I thought the mining process gathered the ore a molecule at a time as opposed to 'clumps' , so perhaps I used a wrong term there. And I think it is a great idea for mining ships to explode with enough force to destroy/cripple their attacker.

If the goal is to make everything more expensive, then yes. However, correct me if I'm wrong but generally the goal of Hulkageddon is to get easy kills for the lulz.

Seems like it is just what the game was designed for, massive user co-operation. It makes mining a seasonal activity, like farming. January thru March is winter for the miner. Time to do research or play the market or go into production. The players are shaping the game as much as the game is shaping the players, and that is a good thing.
